As the calendar shifts to November, I didn’t want to let the October National Cybersecurity Awareness Month go by without recapping some of the activities from the Emerson team.

Earlier, we recapped a webinar with Emerson’s Peter Zornio & Michael Lester and Dragos’ Robert M. Lee in a post, ICS Cybersecurity in Digital Transformation Initiatives. They discussed ways to deal with the challenges of an increased attack surface from increase connections and flows of data to a wider group of people.

Emerson president, Mike Train joined other industry leaders at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Cybersecurity Forum as part of the Digital Resilience focused day of sessions. He shared that even as organizations consider what coronavirus-forced changes to maintain even after the “new normal,” it’s past time for cybersecurity to move from just good enough to its rightful place as an essential component of doing business–especially in manufacturing. Threats will always exist, and it is a matter of how well we can manage that risk versus eliminating it altogether the determines our resilience.

Michael Lester, Director of Cybersecurity Strategy, Governance & Architecture presented at the IIoT World Days 2020 with other cybersecurity experts in an online event panel, Cybersecurity Architecture & Governance for IIoT implementations. The panel discussed the building blocks of the Industrial IoT security architecture and how to successfully implement it in an industrial organization.

Rafael Pureco joined fellow experts in a panel, Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity at the Mexico Oil & Gas Summit. Rafael shared that the Oil & Gas sector is one of the most vulnerable in terms of cybersecurity. Control system obsolescence is an extremely sensitive and critical point to address to mitigate risks. He explained that one of the great benefits that Digital Transformation projects have is that they are scalable. Strategies can be defined according to the level that is required immediately and subsequently scale up.

In addition to these events, Emerson’s Ketan Likhate spoke at the American Chamber India and Anil Bhatia at The Global Business Summit on similar cybersecurity-related topics.

Suppliers such as Emerson continue to participate in educational forums to help manufacturers and producers plan, implement and maintain their cybersecurity defenses as the threats continue to grow.
