With its vibrant cultural landscape, Emerson hosts several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). One such group, the Asia & Pacific Islander Alliance (APIA), organized a significant event, ‘Empowered Voices’. This event, a testament to the importance of May as the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, featured prominent Asian Leaders from across the Emerson organization.
Global Industry Growth Program Leader Sue Ooi hosted a panel that included:
- Mike Tang, Chief Legal Officer
- Norma Dorst, VP of Global Marketing for the Test & Measurement (formerly NI) business
- Nina Golder, Global Lifecycle Services & Quality Leader for the Process Systems & Solutions business
- Arif Mustafa, VP of Sales for the U.S. Gulf Coast Region
The panel discussed their career opportunities, obstacles encountered in their journey, and advice to those participating in the event. They noted how Emerson’s diverse global employees and their experiences have helped drive Emerson’s business performance over the years.
The Asia & Pacific Islander Alliance (APIA) has a clear vision and mission. Their vision is to foster a strong network among Emerson’s Asian & Pacific Islander Employees and their allies, promoting personal and professional growth. Their mission is to ensure these employees have the necessary support to reach their full potential, raise awareness of their challenges, share the rich cultures of the Asian & Pacific Islander heritage, and advocate for equity and recognition. The pillars supporting their vision and mission are connections, development, and empowerment.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive about the lessons to take back and apply in their careers.
