Enabling Competitive Wellhead Testing with Advanced Phase Measurement and Coriolis Meters

Cyclonic separators need to be sized so that no gas can be pulled in to the liquid leg of the separator. If gas is pulled into the liquid leg, large errors occur within the net measurement. This equates to higher equipment costs, and more valuable well pad real estate for well-testing equipment.

Utilizing Micro Motion 5700 transmitter with Advanced Phase Measurement (APM) software has allowed one customer to develop a highly competitive well monitoring system that uses smaller cyclonic separators to reduce the cost and footprint of well-testing skids. The ability of the Micro Motion 5700 transmitter with APM to handle some multi-phase conditions enables the selection of what would normally be considered an ‘undersized’ separator. The customer is now able to leverage this technology to create a competitive solution in a challenging market as well as expand their market to include wells with more gas.
