Event Recap: OTC Houston is All about Safety

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston wrapped up on May 8th, 2014 and we were lucky enough to participate in the amazing event. With over 100,000 attendees from all over the world, safety was a central talking point and theme for many of the booths. From gloves to protect workers from high impact accidents to impact wrenches that are almost noiseless, everyone had something “safety-related” to showcase. Many companies displayed technology (very similar to a joystick and screen from a video game setup) that would allow a worker to remotely operate equipment and remove humans entirely from high risk areas of a rig.

Emerson Process Management’s booth focused on solutions from well planning to fiscal measurement. The booth featured a 3D theater from Roxar to view the reservoir, which had never been done before –no 3D glasses required to fly through a model of your reservoir! The booth included an iOps theater that had hourly shows for attendees. The iOps Theater presentations focused on Emerson’s ability to connect people via their mobile devices, allowing them to collaborate seamlessly, remotely accessing applications, data and colleagues.

Emerson’s Micro Motion Coriolis meters were also featured in the booth for its improved safety and efficiency in drilling operations. Some of the demos for Micro Motion included the Smart Separator and Fiscal Measurement along with products from RAS, Rosemount Flow, Rosemount Level and Fisher. Emerson’s Smart Separator demo highlighted its many benefits, such as its ability to greatly reduce emissions and increase revenue.

After four days of excitement, we can only imagine what OTC 2015 will be like! So until next year, drill safely!
