In an earlier post, Human-Centered Design [HCD] in Action, we noted that those skilled in HCD are skilled at methods for observing human experience (looking), methods for analyzing challenges and opportunities (understanding), and methods for envisioning future possibilities (making).
Emerson’s Jay Elkerton, Director of Human Centered Design, shared with me that HCD-based user testing will be a part of the April 1-3 Emerson Exchange conference in Stuttgart, Germany. You have until January 31 to register to get the Early Bird discount conference rate.
This testing provides process automation and instrumentation professionals an opportunity to get an early look at different technologies and products under development. Beyond a sneak peak, feedback is encouraged by the product development teams. For users, it’s a great chance to have a voice in the direction of the development and an ability to impact change.
Some of the Emerson Process Management brands that have joined in this testing in prior Emerson Exchange conferences include Rosemount, Micro Motion, Remote Automation Solutions, Asset Optimization, and DeltaV to name a few.
I asked Jay if he had the final list of brands, which will be participating in this user testing in Stuttgart. He shared that the list is not yet finalized and that we could provide an update as we get closer to the conference. The testing times have been established for each of the days:
- Tuesday
- 11:00 a.m. to noon
- 1:00 pm to 7:00 p.m.
- Wednesday
- 9:30 a.m. to noon
- 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Thursday
- 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Jay shared some feedback he’s received from some of the development teams. A common theme was that the diversity of user experiences across different industries and positions within their organizations helps our development teams consider alternatives, clarify potential areas of value, and learn firsthand without any filters.
If you’re interested in participating in this testing, make sure you’re registered and contact your local sales office. Members of the HCD team to schedule’ll contact you a time that fits your schedule.
